we released an album today.

My band Fitness Club Fiasco released our album MODERN THOUGHT today. This project has taken a few years to make, interrupted and influenced by falling in love and then a wedding, two babies, a heart surgery, a brain tumour, a successful mayoral campaign, a few break ups (oops), the evolution of Hendo's beard, a spoiled Led Zeppelin t-shirt frozen on a driveway, a lot of pizza, one kick of the can at a radio competition, perfect and fitting artwork from our pal and expert woodsman Scott Hunt, and tireless and magical work from our secret weapon Mark Underdown that have made this album what it is.

We all feel so proud of this album, what it represents, and what it's become. We are so grateful to everyone who has cheered us on, supported us through our indiegogo campaign, voted for us during Searchlight, paid cover at one of our shows (and attended overandoverandover again), paid for one of those robot t-shirts, shared our music with their friends - MODERN THOUGHT wouldn't be what it is without you.

You can stream (and purchase, WINK) our album here.

palpable (adj).

Processed with VSCOcam with x1 presetI want few things, but they are all unlikely [to make manifest my songs, my writing, your heart, to summarize]. And I am wondering if that makes me irresponsible to go after one or most of them. I am gripped by the uncertainty so much that it makes it all seem foolish. But then there are the moments of being so sure: when I forego sleep and uncover a new story inside of me, when I lose a whole day to write another song that captures a former fleeting thought, after walking all of the sidewalks of this city with you. Those moments bring the same assurance as the earth hinting at summer weather (it will surely come), taking a flight without a plan (it will surely be grand), drifting on a boat in the middle of the lake (this is surely where you are meant to be).

meager (adj).

Maybe just the outskirts of love, like that strange blur of streets on the edge of a city that seems like a bit of a messy mesh of stores that aren't sure of themselves, and don't know if rent will come next month. Maybe like the girl ill-dressed for the party, doubting her choices as she pulls at her hem. But there was a version of love there, I'm sure of it, even just for that brief while.

great gatsby book cover.

07f995b569f4affec28d1cbab0447547I've been in a real classics mood with my book choices this month; I just finished 1984 and picked up The Great Gatsby the other day. Isn't this a great cover of Gatsby? I love me a great book cover. Also around here: Farenheit 451 cover. A few book suggestions you might like. Opening lines of novels. A collection of poor punctuation.
